WMSG finds new home at THEARC
The summer of 2005 was exciting for everyone at WMSG, as it moved its 6th, 7th and 9th graders into The Town Hall Education, Arts, and Recreation Campus (THEARC). A new 4th grade was added, and both 4th and 5th grades remained at the Washington View Campus. Here at THEARC, WMSG is joined by other partners such as: Children’s Health Project of DC, The Boys and Girls Club, The Levine School of Music, The Washington Ballet, Corcoran Art Gallery, Trinity University, and others.

So many graduates remarked that they have cherished their RJM education over the years, and are excited that they are now able to support another RJM mission in Washington, DC. Approximately $60,000 was raised for WMSG!
WMSG Celebrates its Affiliation with The National Council of Negro Women
In November, 2005, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at THEARC celebrated the anniversary of the founding of the first Bethune Student Chapter of the NCNW. During a special candlelight ceremony in THEARC’s new theatre, students paid tribute to Mary McLeod Bethune, as well as the other two “spirits” of WMSG – Cornelia Connelly and Claudine Thevenet.
Another Successful Walk for the Homeless
Both campuses of WMSG participated in Washington’s Annual “Walk for the Homeless”, raising several hundred dollars for the cause, and specifically supporting “New Endeavors By Women”. WMSG has traditionally supported this popular event, and once again students and staff were happy to show their own neighborhood that they care.
New Challenges for the Class of 2005
Graduates from WMSG have moved on to some of the area’s finest high schools which include: Washington Math, Science & Technology Public Charter High School, Cesar Chavez Public Charter High School, and Thurgood Marshall Public Charter High School.
Dr. Gloria Wilder-Braithwaite, Director of Children’s Health Project of D.C., encouraged the students to count their obstacles as challenges, and to build upon their success at WMSG as they embark on this new journey. WMSG’s Graduate Support Program will be there to encourage them along the way.
