Junior Achievement Program returns to WMSG for its
fourth year
Good friend and benefactor, Hank Levine, is working
once again with our 8th grade class on topics such as: The Stock
Market, International, Free and Fair Trade, International Business
Practices, World Currencies, and the Global Marketplace. Each lesson is
interactive and lively – especially when the students learn that their
chosen stock has performed well!
A New Science Lab
This year, 6th, 7th and 8th
grade students are enjoying full use of an up to date science lab, thanks to
a grant from the Sovereign Order of Malta. Many science experiments and
other projects take place in a space that is perfect for middle school
adventurers. We are well on our way to having what we need for a complete
lab.
We're Proud of our Dedicated Staff
New staff members bring different levels of teaching
experience, much dedication, and hail from such education institutions as:
Penn State University, Georgetown University, Hope College, and Rosemont
College. Several are currently studying for Masters Degrees from George
Washington University and Trinity University. In January, faculty members
Marlene Magrino and Angela Stepancic accompanied Headmistress Jennifer Gibbs
Phillips to the Nativity Network of Schools’ Conference in Baltimore, Md.,
where they met with other teachers and principals from Nativity schools
across the country.
WMSG and WJA Enjoy a Day Off Together
Honor Roll Students from The Washington Middle School
for Girls and The Washington Jesuit Academy were treated to a “power lunch”
with Associates from the Jones Day Law Firm, and later moved on to
Washington’s Union Station for an afternoon at the movies. Staff and
students alike at these two Nativity Network schools agree that this might
have to be an ongoing activity for our students who have proven their
dedication to their own bright futures!
WMSG Staff Attends 2006 Nativity Network Conference
In January, Jennifer Gibbs Phillips, Headmistress,
Marlene Magrino, School Coordinator, Washington View Campus, and Angela
Stepancic, Vice Principal, THEARC Campus attended the Nativity Network
Conference in Baltimore, MD, where they met and mingled with administrators
and teachers from Nativity schools from all over the country.
Students Attend Washington Capitols Game
Thanks to the Kimsey Foundation, Amy Norris and several
WMSG students attended a Washington Capitols Hockey game at Washington DC’s
MCI Center. Our girls truly enjoyed their box seats, where they were able
to learn first hand about hockey – a sport that they had never seen before
in person.
WMSG Voices
Kimberly Hopwood, Graduate Support Director, and
several WMSG students attended the recent “Right to Life” march on the Mall,
where they joined in with people from all over the world to voice their
beliefs.
