WMSG began as an after-school tutoring and enrichment program for fourth and fifth grade girls. |

Two-week summer camp session provided for WMSG students. This feature of the program has continued every summer since 1998. |

School opened as a full-time educational program for grades five and six. |
| September 1999 |
Students moved on to grades six and seven. |
| September 2000 |
WMSG expanded to serve grades six, seven and eight. |
| June 2001 |
First class of eighth grade students graduated from WMSG. A well-established mentoring program was in place to provide support for these girls through their high school years.

Summer camp expanded to an eight-week program. |
| October 2001 |
Groundbreaking for THEARC project of the William C. Smith Company, which will be the future home of WMSG. |
| September 2002 |
Cooperative relationships with several local institutions, including the Levine School of Music, the Washington Ballet, and the Washington School of Psychiatry, helped broaden and enhance the educational opportunities for WMSG students. |

Beginning of a major effort to reevaluate and revise school curriculum and to expand and improve student and family services |
| September 2005 |
Opening of the 4th and 5th grades at the Washington View Campus, and the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades at THEARC (Town Hall Education, Arts and Recreation Campus). |
